Welcome to DS822. Here you will find an index of my pages on various anime and manga series and some on fandom itself. Please enjoy your stay.

Finished Series Pages

In order of age, oldest projects first:

Ravenwood’s Illustrated Discussions of Sailor Moon
This is still the biggest and covers symbolism, gender issues, essays that have been published on BSSM and my personal socio-political theories.
Radial Keratotamy and Other Philosophical Issues
This is a Rurouni Kenshin suite; it’s a bit strange in places, but has lots of narrative analysis and a page of political/philosophical ramblings.
Beak of the Finch: Imagination’s Place
This is Digimon, my only dub-based suite; for some reason this show roused the crusader in me–probably Takeru’s influence–so there’s a good deal of ethical reflection to go along with my more traditional text analysis.
Water Over Fire: After Completion
My Fushigi Yuugi pages; less individual character analysis and more whole-plot analysis than most of the previous; bunch of historical/mythological stuff, too.
Last Train Home
The Cowboy Bebop site; all analysis, all the time, wow did I love this show; a serious put-the-pieces-together effort.
The Fortunate Fall
The Trigun pages; lots of thematic analysis here plus Occasionally Asked Questions and some speculation on where the ending might point us.
A Paper Sword
My Yuugi-ou pages; quite a bit of historical/cosmological work this time, as well as a fair bit of character and a smaller bit of thematic analysis; also a bit of hair-letting-down.
Pomegranate
A Gundam Seed site; not much specific-character analysis this time, instead there’s lots of whole-plot analysis.
Axis Mundi
Prince of Tennis pages; a fair amount of general plot analysis, with character analysis mostly centered on Rikkai, because I find them the most interesting.
Damask
My Bleach pages; bunches of symbolic analysis, often taking the characters as another set of symbols, and attempts to tease out all the linguistic connotations.
Turn the Wheel
My Utena pages. These have very little character analysis as such, since most of the characters are archetypes. Instead there are gleeful loads of symbolic analysis.
Flower of Life
My Fullmetal Alchemist pages. They deal mostly with the various symbolism that the story calls on.
Petshop of Horrors FAQ
Petshop is a subtle and ambiguous sort of series. This page contains my readings of a number of oft debated questions and issues.
Materia(l)
Pages on Final Fantasy VII. These are mostly about the shape of the story and symbolism, rather than specific characters, but Sephiroth does get his own page.
.

Officially Unfinished

I doubt these will ever be finished, though I have finished the series in question. Inspiration just never returned.

Fire at Perihelion
My Gundam Wing site; based on the anime through Volume 7, though I have since finished it.
Copper and Salt
The Weiss Kreuz pages; only half finished, despite the fact that I have finished watching the series. Koyasu needs therapy in a big, serious way.

Some Nattering

If you have just happened to wander in and are unfamiliar with my work, I should note that I am an academic by upbringing and vocation and I tend to focus on analysis of characters and plots. While there are some of graphics sprinkled over my pages, they are accompaniments to the discussion; if you want concentrated image collections, check the Information Desk. If you are looking for answers to series questions, well, they may show up in the text and then again they may not. I include FAQs in my in-page links when possible precisely because my pages may skip over basic questions. Every last one contains spoilers.

5/24/01: You know, I’m really just a bit alarmed that April was the first anniversary of my introduction to anime (thanks Kay!). Here I was thinking it had been two years. Time stretches when you’re having fun?

4/28/02: Now it’s been two years. Everything posted has undergone at least one visual redesign. Sun in Virgo, Leo rising, what can I say…

4/20/03: Three years and I’m now designing on a Mac; I really wish everyone would assemble their waterfowl in a linear configuration when it comes to how webfiles display. Ah, well, at least this hobby seems to be a keeper.

9/23/05: Nothing like the urge to tidy, to haul one back off of hiatus. Displacement activity is an amazing thing. And, incidentally, viva la LJ.

5/25/06: And nothing like the urge to smack the hotlinkers to finally get one moving to redo the site in php.

8/20/08: Starting to transfer content to WordPress as a CMS, so someone else can keep track of the bloody php versioning for me. No real updates, but I may edit a bit as I go. Maybe.

My Personal Gimmick

Anyone who can tell me what the title of this page means will be featured in the Really Impressed Mention list–if you have a webpage, send the url along with your answer and I’ll include the link, too. Two hints: it’s not Star Trek; and look around the Further Reading section of The Information Desk.

Really Impressed Mentions

Katydid wins! Of course, she also has an unfair advantage, but so what? Check out her website for Hot Bad Guys. Who’s next?

Next is Kalli (Rene/Chelsea, depending on her mood). Go visit her personal space, it’s neat.

Mikhail Koulikov, webmaster of the Anime/Manga Web Essay Archive. Not surprising.

Teldra. Who has an lj you can visit.
